The King Street-Old Town Metrorail Station Access Improvement Project has made sweeping improvements to the station’s bus loop. With the first phase of those improvements complete, the bus loop will reopen on Sunday, June 6.

The goal of the project and its many improvements to the station are to provide a safer, more pedestrian-friendly environment around the station that allows buses and their riders to connect to Metrorail service more efficiently. Completed improvements that riders will  experience when the loop reopens include:

  • Relocation of all bus routes from temporary bus bays to new, permanent bus bays conveniently located near the station entrance
  • New digital real-time arrival displays at bus bays
  • New crosswalks
  • Enhanced lighting around the station

Construction of three remaining bus bays and the new Kiss & Ride area will continue in the bus loop through Summer 2021.

  • MetroAccess customers will continue to use the Commonwealth Avenue exit to access the temporary bus stop on Cameron Street until the remainder of the bus bays are completed
  • Once the three remaining bus bays are open, some buses will be relocated to their permanent locations
  • Kiss & Ride customers should continue to use the Braddock Rd or Eisenhower Ave Metrorail stations

For your safety, please follow all markings and posted signs, and use available crosswalks.
