The Alexandria Transit Company (ATC) Board of Directors seeks a qualified firm or
individual to serve as general counsel for the corporation. The ideal candidate or firm will
represent the Board and provide comprehensive legal services, including:
- Advising on general legal matters affecting the organization, including employment
matters and corporate governance. - Structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, including
intergovernmental memorandum of understanding. - Assisting senior management, the Board of Directors and ATC staff with periodic
legal needs. - Serving as the primary point of contact for issues related to Virginia’s Freedom of
Information Act.
Candidates should have substantial experience in public transportation law and contract
law and a thorough understanding of Virginia’s legal landscape.
Key Qualifications: - Active member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar.
- Proven experience in public sector law, especially within the transportation industry.
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Expertise in Virginia’s Freedom of Information Act.
- Ability to assist with locating legal resources to handle matters outside of primary
areas of expertise when needed.
