DASH Announces FY 2027 ATSP Service Updates Taking Effect August 9

DASH (Alexandria Transit) is happy to announce a new round of service updates and system-wide improvements taking effect starting August 9, 2026. Riders can expect expanded service on Line 32, more consistent and reliable schedules system-wide, and the implementation of the North Old Town Circulator bus stop rebalancing effort.

These enhancements follow this year’s Alexandria Transit Strategic Plan (ATSP), our annual review of system performance, ridership trends, community proposals, and long-term mobility goals grounded in public outreach and data analysis. Our current service levels and a couple of recommendations were formally approved and funded by City Council as part of the City’s annual budget approval process and made possible with the continued investment from other regional partners as well.

Together, these improvements reflect both community priorities identified through public engagement and the long-term planning goals established in the Alexandria Transit Vision (ATV) Plan.

Beginning August 9, riders can expect:

System-Wide Schedule Optimization

• Minor timetable adjustments to Lines 30, 31, 34, 35, 36, and 103
  • Accounts for new traffic patterns.
  • Improves on-time performance and reliability
• Minor timetable adjustments to Lines 30, 31, and the King Street Trolley
  • Improves spacing between buses.
  • More accurately reflects actual arrival and travel times.

Line 32 Frequency Improvement

• All Line 32 trips will run end-to-end between King Street Metro Station and West Alexandria Transit Center every 30 minutes, seven days a week.
  • Expands on last year’s weekday 30-minute frequency improvement between Van Dorn Metro and West Alexandria Transit Center.

North Old Town Circulator Stop Rebalance

• Line 30, 31, and 34 stops along the N. Fairfax St, Madison St, and Montgomery St corridors will be consolidated to about every other block.
  • Equalizes stop spacing, improves accessibility, and enhances reliability between City Hall/Market Square and Braddock Road Metro Station.
  • Removes 4 stops in both directions, while adding four in the eastbound direction and one in the westbound direction.

Looking Ahead

This round of improvements is another step toward DASH’s broader goals of bringing more frequent, reliable transit service across Alexandria. In the short term, we are working toward 30-minute or better off-peak frequency systemwide. Over the long term, our goal, as outlined in the Alexandria Transit Vision (ATV) Plan, is to deliver 15-minute, all-day service on key corridors throughout the city.
