The very first DASH buses rolled out onto the streets of Alexandria on March 11, 1984 with just 30 employees and 17 buses. In the first year of operation, the agency served less than a million riders and covered more than 500,000 miles. As ridership and demand for service across the City increased, DASH grew to meet the changing needs of the Alexandria community.
After 37 years of keeping Alexandria moving, DASH now operates more than 100 buses across nearly a dozen routes to connect nearly 4 million passengers to work, school, and community events in 2020. The agency is now 241 team members strong and growing. DASH’s fleet will also continue to grow as DASH introduces additional zero-emissions battery electric buses into service in Alexandria.
